Guy Clark is a Texas-born singer-songwriter who turned 70 at the end of last year. Another Texas singer-songwriter, Lyle Lovett recorded Clark’s first song, which was never recorded by Clark — “Step Inside This House.” I love this song, its lyrics and what they mean to me. Take a few minutes to listen to this song in the video below and enjoy the feelings you experience. Maybe the poetic  words will mean something to you.

View of The Rincon Mountains from The Arizona Trail, Southeast of Tucson — Image by kenne

Monday of this week some fellow hikers and I hike a segment of the Arizona Trail, north from Hwy 83 and Sahuarita Road. The trail is an 800+ mile recreation trail from Mexico to Utah that connects mountain ranges, canyons, deserts, forests, wilderness areas, historic sites, trail systems, points of interest, communities, and people. Next week we are scheduled to hike south from Hwy 83 and Sahuarita Road.

About the only animals we saw along the trail was a heard of cattle. I didn’t know the name of the cattle, but Paul quickly said, “white faced,” and started singing “Where The White Faced Cattle Roam,” a song originally written by Buddy Williams. The video below is for Paul.

“Firewater In The Canyon” — Image by kenne

Last Friday, while hiking the Sabino Canyon Phoneline Trail, the morning sun had not yet made it into the canyon floor. However, the upper canyon walls were a flush with sunlight and at the proper angle reflected on the Sabino Canyon Creek below. When first noticed, the view was very eerie from the trail above — the creek was on fire.

At the beginning of this week’s nature walk, the Sabino Canyon temperatures were in the mid-to-upper thirties. Just a short time into the walk, we spotter this guy taking advantage of the morning sun, having lowered his wing to expose more of his body to the sun. He watched us carefully, but was more interested in warming up than moving on as we moved in close for a few photos. Don’t you just love it!
